WhiteManistan concerned about potential ammo shortage

Pump up the count. Understanding a serious social problem through art and music.

From the great believer in the scientific conspiracy to fool the public on global warming:

Republicans want to limit the number of bullets federal agencies can purchase so American gun owners can buy more.

Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe and Rep. Frank Lucas have introduced a bill that would prohibit every government agency — except the military — from buying more ammunition each month, than the monthly average it purchased from 2001 to 2009.

The lawmakers say the Obama administration is buying up exceedingly high levels of ammunition in an attempt to limit the number of bullets the American public have access to on the open marketplace.

“President Obama has been adamant about curbing law-abiding Americans’ access and opportunities to exercise their Second Amendment rights,” said Inhofe.

“One way the Obama Administration is able to do this is by limiting what’s available in the market with federal agencies purchasing unnecessary stockpiles of ammunition.”

More distillate of all that is the paranoid and hateful style.

    Well lets think about this:

    1) There’s more than 1 calibre of pistol ammo, are ther IDIQ contracts out on everything from 5.7mmx28mm to .500 S&W? Really? While “the Sequester” is in operation? No wonder the deficit is out of control…:-)

2)The US has a free market system with Ammo build facilities in all sizes from Large Factory to Ma and Pa corner shop. Such a flexible system has failed to respond by increasing supply? really?. No one rang up FN Herstal and said they could flog at premium price every 9mm Parabellum and .40 S&W that they could ship. Truly that Yankee get up and go has got up and went….:-)

    3) Even Republican Congressmen don’t believe the “Obama’s war against America” bollocks…http://westmoreland.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=739&Itemid=372

4)Does anyone actually know how many rounds have *actually* been called off and delivered? Or is the real number not scary enough to support the lunacy?

5)Isn’t it more likely that the surge in arms and ammunition purchases as the Survivalists and Zombie Apocalypse Preppers panic buy ahead of anticipated control legislation?

I don’t know what this is entirely about but it’s been percolating under the radar for awhile, packaged with the conspiracies the NRA has attributed to the the Obama administration. There something called the “Obama firearms and ammo killswitch” they’ve been passing around for awhile and it has to do with UN arms treaty that will not be ratified in this country, anyway, because the Republican Party takes the official position that it is a UN plot to deprive Americans of freedom and liberty. And that’s been an NRA position.

I’m feeling this is part of that mania.

And the newsmedia pretty conclusively (although through anecdotes) told the story that after Newtown and through the holidays the mass buys in ammunition and subsequent shortages were all caused by civilian action.

Good link, by the way. That explains it logically, and I’ve seen the discussion before because this topic won’t go away. It gains no traction. Therefore, Inhofe.
