Mesmerizing
Fiore gets to the heart of the NRA Convention, a hypnosis session for stoking fear, all to get WhiteManistan to buy more military hardware.
The NRA is a paranoid death cult. Contrast Fiore’s cartoon with Wayne LaPierre’s speech which starts calmly enough, then goes bonkers. (Advance to 5:44.)
Your eyes may water, too, but not in a good way when you hear LaPierre shed tears over a nation that has “lost civility” at a convention where Ted Nugent was a keynote speaker.
The NRA’s Paranoia TV series, sponsored by miscellaneous gun manufacturers, is truly remarkable.

Give them credit. They know their existing customer base and those who might become new clients. They know which emotional and “rational” buttons to press to move product.
It is a “self-defense” product that a person, in theory, would only need to buy once in a lifetime, with proper care and use, unlike a car or other major, durable household goods.
How many guns are enough, in order to feel “safe” in our society? I’ve never met anyone with more than two hands, so I’d say, “two, at most.” And, as for “fighting government oppression,” if the government wants to *get* someone, they’ll *get* him or her in due time. How good is a handgun against a drone at 10,000 feet, armed with Hellfire missiles?

One knows exactly what would have happened if a Cliven Bundy militia showed up in LA County and provoked a confrontation with official power. Precisely, why such a thing would never happen, besides law (it ain’t, obviously, Nevada) and why one only sees them in relatively isolated locales where the regional politics are sympathetic, even if only momentarily until the thrilling men turn into armed public nuisances.
