The Empire’s Dog Feces: The Pentagon budget-cut crybaby story
DD will believe serious budgets to the Pentagon after they arrive.
But for the last two days we’ve had a number of stories in which cuts to defense are already being bemoaned by “think tanks” and “defense analysts” who have never been our friends.
The last bit, taken from a Daily Beast thing syndicated to Yahoo, is a bit of a laugh riot, Unintentionally, of course:
“Do you want to share the world with the Chinese or with nuclear-armed Iran???? [says Thomas Donnelly from the American Enterprise Institute]. “The only thing worse than Americans running the world is someone else running the world.???
For Pentagon officials and many defense analysts, that is a dark scenario and far worse than any budget crisis.
Realistically, with American multi-national help, the Chinese are already “running” all dry goods stores in the United States. And I’ve laughed at the idea of a shooting war with them, for these reasons, previously.
As for Iran, a picture says a bajillion words…

Beware the green pantywaists. These guys would get slaughtered by the US military of 1945.
Since arms manufacturing is the only protected industry in the US and it’s spread out everywhere, it’s just not a Republican thing. Journalists on the beat know that. And what you haven’t seen in these articles are all the Democrats that will line up to sabotage any theoretical cuts to the defense budget when the time comes using the well-worn argument that they’re protecting wages and jobs in their districts.

There was an article a while back about India having sub capability too, they are buying up diesel subs, I think iran must be getting them from the same supplier judging by the look of that one in the pic. In fact that one looks like a prototype of the Honduras drug sub.
I always find it ironic that that the most outspoken against other nations having nuclear weapons come from the only nation to have actually demonstrated a keen desire to use them. I’m not suggesting that the UK is far behind. I just can’t see even allegedly aggressive nations flipping a nuke at any of the western nuke countries – the whole point is deterrent isn’t it? too terrible to use? The non nuke naughty boys must be shitting their pants waiting for self appointed police to go all tactical on them. Lets face it, a tactical nuke on SH in Iraq would probably have had less “collateral” damage than the 15 year farce they conducted. But, of course the protected industries would have been significantly less prosperous than they have been. Conventional war is fabulous business if you happen to be a bullet monger.
Am I way off here ? BTW I’m not advocating nukes here :)

No. It was OK to scream about wanting to nuke Iraq, or threaten Iran, but something in the bedrock hasn’t changed. If we actually were to ever use one, we automatically lose. We had one get-out-of-jail free card due to invention and the need to end a war where the target hit us first, very hard.
